Health and Wellbeing Zone confirmed!

We’re excited to announce that the Glasgow Association for Mental Health (GAMH) will be part of our Health and Wellbeing Zone for the first time at The Gathering 2018! GAMH will be bringing along therapists from their ‘My Time’ project to provide massages and pampering to delegates over the two day event, in the exhibition and marketplace.

They will be joined by West Lothian College’s Platinum Salon – returning for their 7th year in a row! – who will be providing delegates with manicures and hair styling.

Gathering Guru tip

Booked a stand at The Gathering? Make sure it’s welcoming and fully set up before the First Minister officially opens the exhibition and marketplace on Wednesday morning! Don’t forget, there’s an opportunity to set up on the Tuesday afternoon and meet other exhibitors. Giveaways are always good to entice people to visit your stand, and even a free pen goes a long way. Make sure all staff are briefed before being on the stand too – you’d be amazed at the difference a friendly smile can make!

Join our exhibition and marketplace

For the past 14 years we have welcomed third sector organisations and social enterprises to our bustling exhibition and marketplace. Located at the centre of The Gathering, it’s such a great place to showcase something new, make new connections and strengthen existing ones.

This year we’re looking for even more interactive experiences, so whether you’ve got some fancy tech to showcase or some interactive art, we’d love you to be part of our exhibition space. Don’t miss out – check who’s already on board and book your stand now!

Gathering Guru tip

If you think your event or participation in the exhibition & marketplace may not be right for The Gathering – think again! The best thing to do is just pick up the phone and speak to one of us here in the SCVO Events Team to discuss your ideas – we’re always happy to help. The Gathering has a wide variety of events and exhibitors taking part – from banks to small social enterprises – so everyone is welcome (and encouraged!) to join in.

First Minister confirmed!

We are pleased to announce that Nicola Sturgeon the First Minister of Scotland will be attending the Gathering 2018. The First Minister will be at the event on the Wednesday morning to host our annual breakfast meeting and then will officially open the exhibition and marketplace.

Gathering Guru tip

Worried about attracting visitors in the exhibition hall? Don’t want to be in a ‘cold spot’? Luckily for you there aren’t any in our exhibition hall, we have made sure that there is something exciting going on in every area to make sure that every single stand is important as the next. So don’t worry whether you are next to the front door or right up the back of the hall you are guaranteed visitors at the Gathering.

Be part of our Social Enterprise Street

After it’s success in 2017, our Social Enterprise Street is back in our exhibition & marketplace for 2018. The street gives visitors to The Gathering the opportunity to meet, buy and sample a fantastic array of goodies and gifts from Scotland’s social enterprise sector, and you could be part of it! We’re offering all social enterprises the opportunity to be part of the exhibition and marketplace at a discounted rate.

Gathering Guru tip

I know exhibiting at an event can be daunting, so here’s some pointers to make your time at The Gathering a breeze.

When we send our Exhibitors and Event Host Manual out in January, read it all the way to the end – then read it again! It might seem like an arduous task but it’ll be worth it as it’s full of helpful hints, general information and house guidelines. Remember to bring it with you on the day, along with:

  • your best smile – get out from behind the table and delegates will approach your stand
  • your organisational name badge – so delegates know who they’re talking to
  • a display stand for literature – make sure it’s all relevant and up-to-date
  • a tablecloth for decorating the trestle table (and hiding all your bits ‘n’ bobs)
  • an extension lead for electrical equipment like laptops and iPads
  • a stationery box – you never know when you’ll need scissors or a blob of Blu-Tack.

I’m here to make taking part in The Gathering easy and enjoyable, so get in touch…or read your manual!

Half the programme gone!

Since our launch a couple of weeks back we’ve been inundated with bookings, with over half of the available event slots in the programme booked within the first two weeks. But don’t worry – there are still lots of opportunities for organisations and companies to host events, and as part of the event host package, we’ll take all the pain and stress out of it for you.

We’ll manage, market and advertise your event, manage your delegates, send confirmations and deal with enquiries, and deal with your room and audio visual set up. We’ll even register your delegates on the day. Event hosts will also have access to up-to-date delegate lists once the programme launches in January and you’ll get an invite along to The Gathering 2018 reception sponsored by Glasgow City Council. The only thing you need to do is book to host an event and come up with some cracking content!

Gathering Guru tip

There’s nothing more frustrating than  getting to the end of a box set or TV series, only to be left hanging until the next season to find out more or who done it.  It’s the same with our event programme. Don’t leave booking to host an event until later in the year, chances are the programme will be fully booked and launched, and delegates will already have signed up to attend sessions over the two days. You don’t want to have to wait until The Gathering 2019 to host your event or next instalment!

Don’t pick stand number 14

Hi everyone, Joanne here, your friendly neighbourhood events assistant. This is my second Gathering and WOW – it’s already busier than last year! In the last week and a half we’ve had over 24 event slots booked and 8 exhibition stands, which means I have quite a lot of work to be getting on with. When a booking comes in I’m the one who sends your confirmation and participation forms, and I’m also the one with the big floor plan on her desks who helps make sure everyone gets the stand they want – you’d be amazed how popular stand number 14 is! So when you’re booking to host your event or your exhibition stand spare a thought for me when you complete and send it, I’m making sure everything is sent back just right!

Gathering Guru tip

When you are booking your stand have more than one stand number option in mind, chances are you aren’t the only one who wants stand number 20. Same goes with booking an event, have a second time slot or room layout choice in case Wednesday afternoon is booked out or there are no round table rooms left.

Sponsor Announced

We’re happy to announce CCLA as one of our sponsors. CCLA are specialists in cash and investment management for charities, faith organisations and local authorities. Their services include the broadest range of funds designed specifically for charities (for more details, check out their website) and they will be hosting a series of events at The Gathering 2018 – more details will be available when we launch the programme in January 2018.

Gathering Guru tip

There’s lots of opportunities for organisations and companies to host events at The Gathering 2018. Our packed programme of 70 free events over the two days offers visitors a wide range of opportunities to hear latest developments, learn something new or engage in areas of interest. Event hosts who have a short catchy title get more clicks on the website when we launch our programme in January. Stats from previous events show that hosting an event on Day Two in the afternoon is just as popular with visitors as a lunchtime slot on Day One.
